TW166 boards at Changi around 01:15 and departs 02:15, so you will land already jet-lagged from a red-eye. CJU arrival is smooth, though: exit Gate 5, shuttle to the rental office. Have the physical IDP, passport and licence ready, budget a full hour for paperwork. Keep the rest of today deliberately light, you earned it.

Ease in along the northeast coast toward Hamdeok Beach, white sand, turquoise water, Seoubong oreum at the far end. Lunch at Haenyeo Gimbap, a gimbap counter on the 3rd floor right above the beach.

Late October is the tail of pink muhly season, still photogenic. Take the 3:30-4:00 PM boat back to Seongsan Port, the last ferry is around 5:30 PM, so don't cut it close.
Seopjikoji at sunset
From Seongsan Port it is a 15-minute drive to Seopjikoji. Aim to arrive around 4:30-5:00 PM for the clifftop walk to the lighthouse, with the light turning gold. Sunset on Oct 22 is about 5:50 PM, so you have a comfortable hour of walking and photos. Open until about 7:00 PM.
Dinner near Hado
From Seopjikoji it is about a 25-minute drive north to Hado for your second night. For something memorable, 해녀의 부엌 (Haenyeo's Kitchen) in neighbouring Jongdal-ri pairs a haenyeo-cooked seafood course with a short performance on diving life, 100% reservation only, seatings Thu-Sun at 11:00/14:00/17:00, which no longer fits after the sunset stop, so treat it as optional. Otherwise any haenyeo-run seafood restaurant in Sehwa or Hado is a reliably good, simpler dinner.

Haenyeo Museum, then Manjanggul lava tube
Start right in Hado-ri at the Jeju Haenyeo Museum (open 09:00-18:00, last entry 17:30, closed Mondays, so fine on a Friday), about an hour on the history and culture of Jeju's free-diving women. Then drive about 15 minutes west to Manjanggul, a covered lava tube where the open section is a flat, walkable path in a steady 12-15°C. Open 09:00-18:00 (last entry 17:00), closed the first Wednesday of the month, so open on Oct 23. Allow about 1 hour, wear shoes with grip.

Drive about 30 minutes to Seongsan for lunch, then spend an hour inside Bunker de Lumières, an immersive digital art show in a former military bunker (currently Van Gogh, The Starry Night). Open daily 10:00-18:20, last entry 17:30, about ₩19,000 for adults, no time slot needed. If you would rather have a longer, more kid-proof option, Aqua Planet Jeju near Seopjikoji is the alternative (2-3 hours, 09:30-18:00, last entry 17:30, about ₩43,700). Pick one, not both. A slow coffee after fits here, and Warang Warang is optional since it sits inland.

A big three-floor bakery cafe on the coast at Sinyang, with a 45 m panoramic sea view and breads and croissants out of the oven through the day. Order on the 2nd floor, then take your coffee and a pastry to whichever floor has the best window. Open daily, roughly 08:00-19:00 (last order around 18:15, hours vary by source), an easy, unhurried stop before the Seongsan seafood dinner.

Cafe Gyulkkot Darak, a tangerine-orchard cafe
A 1978 stone tangerine storehouse converted into a cosy loft-style cafe in the middle of a mandarin grove, with a brown main building, a white annex and seats out among the trees. Known for tangerine lattes, tangerine mousse cake and jelly. It sits in Seogwipo city, on the way west from Hado, and opens at 11:00, so time your arrival for opening to beat the tour crowds. Open daily 11:00-19:00 (last order about 18:20).

Layered volcanic cliffs and wide sea views without the roped-off, paid, tour-group version at Jusangjeolli. Park anywhere along the coastal road and wander, this is roughly the halfway point on the way to Aewol.

A small, well-kept animal park at the foot of Saebyeol Oreum: alpacas, fallow deer, mouflon and parrots, with hand-feeding and the oreum's grassy slope as backdrop. Easy flat walking, about an hour, open 9:30-18:00, around ₩18,000 entry. It sits just a short drive inland from Aewol, so it makes a gentle last stop on the way in, and the oreum's silver grass is at its best in autumn.

From Saebyeol it's only about 10 minutes down to Aewol, your base for the next three nights. Settle in, then an easy first dinner, black pork or fresh seafood, in Aewol town, and save the golden-hour cafe crawl for tomorrow.

10 to 15 minute crossing to the uninhabited crater island, small rim walk on Dangsanbong, your quiet answer to Sunrise Peak. Semi-dried squid at the port is the local snack. If the ferry timing is off, the Suwolbong geo-trail cliffs below the peak fill the morning just as well.

Drive up Suwolbong for the coastal panorama, then north along the Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road, offshore turbines lined up against the water near Sinchang Wind Village, before continuing on to Hyeopjae's white sand and Biyangdo views. Sunday beach crowds are fine in late October.

A stone-house seafood-ramen spot right on the water at Gueum Port, a few minutes up the coast road from Handam. No reservations, no menu beyond a couple of ramen bowls, and it sells out and closes early most days, so get there well before the 17:00-17:30 last order. The octopus ramen comes loaded with a whole octopus, a crab, and abalone in a fresh-made spicy broth.

Yeongsil trail up to Witseoreum
Drive the 1100 Road to the Yeongsil ranger station at about 1,280 m (50–60 minutes from Aewol). The small car park beside the station fills early in foliage season (a smaller lower lot lies down the road, with a long road walk up), so aim to be parked by about 07:30. Parking is a few thousand won at the gate (about ₩1,800 in recent reports). The trail is about 3.7 km one way to the Witseoreum shelter at ~1,700 m, 2 to 2.5 hours up: forest, then the Five Hundred Generals rock pillars, then the open Seonjakjiwat plateau. No reservation and no registration needed, just show up. October rules: entry opens 05:00 and closes at 12:00, be back down from Witseoreum by 15:00 (the stretch beyond toward Namyeok is closed earlier, so do not go on). Moderate, steady climb with stairs and rocky steps.

Eat at the shelter (toilets and water taps only, no food for sale and no cooking, so carry lunch and a flask) with the summit cliffs above you, then descend the same trail, about 1.5 hours. Round trip is roughly 7.4 km and 4 to 6 hours. Pack for 5–10°C and wind at the top: waterproof shell and pants, a warm mid-layer, gloves and a hat, grippy boots, trekking poles for the wet rock stairs, 1.5 L water, snacks, a headlamp, and a charged phone with an offline map. Emergencies: dial 119 and give the trail marker number.

1100 Altitude Wetland boardwalk
Drive up the 1100 Road to the high wetland. A flat 15–40 minute boardwalk loop with close-up mountain views and peak October colour, no climbing. Rest stop open 6am–4:30pm. The Yeongsil trailhead area is the foliage hotspot if you want one more viewpoint.

Follow the coastal road from Aewol into Jeju City, hugging the water the whole way, or cut up via the 1100 Road for one last foliage view. Graze breakfast from Dongmun Market's stalls, hotteok, sundae, mandarins and hallabong for the flight.

Since the flight is not until evening, use the free hours well: black pork lunch at Dogalbi near Halla University, soy-marinated raw crab (ganjang gejang) at 제주동문간장게장 a minute from the market, a last cafe, or a short walk at Yongduam (Dragon Head Rock) and the nearby coastal path, close to both the city and the airport. Keep it light, not another driving day.
